Changing Places as standard

Thu, 26 Aug 2010

From Mencap, please show your support.

Please see message and link below. Please note very tight deadline of 31
August 2010.

My name is Leroy Binns and I am a peer advocate for people with profound and
multiple learning disabilities. I get to know people and find out what is
important to them.

When we go out for the day, there are never any suitable toilets for the
people I support to use. Standard accessible disabled toilets just do not
meet their needs. They need a Changing Places toilet with a
height-adjustable changing bench, a hoist and plenty of space.

Without Changing Places toilets families and carers are forced to change
their loved ones on a dirty toilet floor, which is dangerous, unhygienic and
undignified.

Every new big public building should have a Changing Places toilet and we
now have the chance to see this dream become a reality.

Please email Andrew Stunell MP, the minister leading this work, to tell him
exactly how important it is to include Changing Places toilets as a standard
part of every new public building.

This is urgent as the government has only given us until the end of August
to tell them what change is urgently needed to the building regulations.

All the best,

Leroy Binns
