New services for children and young people with additional needs and their families!

Thu, 02 Sep 2010

The MAIN Project has been delivering services to children and young people with additional needs since 2002. We provide a unique blend of personalised services, grant funded provision and contracted services, all influenced by what you tell us you want and need.

The MAIN Project offer a wide range of services which include advice, support, social clubs and holiday clubs for children with an Autism Spectrum Condition and more recently now offer services for children with any additional need. Working closely with our Partner Company ‘The MAIN Event' we provide workshops, seminars and bespoke training.

In Redcar and Cleveland we currently offer the following activities at no or minimal cost to children and young people and their families with additional needs:

Thursday - Social Group for children with an ASC
For children age 5 to 18 years based at Grangetown Youth Centre. These sessions will include a variety of activities and have included bowling, sports, arts and crafts, drama, circus skills training, music sessions and more!

Saturday - Creative Club for children with additional needs
This Saturday club is for children with any additional need and the service will be entirely accessible. Regardless of your individuals needs, there will be activities for you to take part in...Being creative, being noisy, videoing or photographing other activities, being musical - make it your own!

Holiday Play Scheme for children with an ASC
For children aged 5 to 18. This is held in various venues throughout Redcar and Cleveland area for all holidays through the year.

Positive Activities Club
These youth based workshops and sessions are an opportunity for children and young people (in some cases with parents and carers) to explore issues that are current for them - positive image, self esteem, sexual health, relationship or boundaries to name a few.

Social Groups for adults with an ASC
We run a social group for young adults aged 18-26. Come and join us and meet new friends, have a chat & chill out! Have fun doing activities you choose whilst developing social skills and making friends.
As a group the young people choose activities for the weekly meetings, which are held in central venues in Teesside area. Popular activities include Bowling, Cinema, Restaurants, Pub/Pool, Badminton/Tennis. A charge is made for this service, which includes some activities costs. Bookings are required for the Adult Group. This includes two project workers who support the group each week.

Sleep Solutions & Sensory Assessments
Our project officer Helen is a qualified Sleep Practitioner, so if you or your child/young person has a problem with sleep (and most children with additional needs do) or you think you would benefit from a sensory assessment, we can help!

Home Visits
For parents and carers we offer advice, information, signposting and access to a wealth of experience on most matters relating to children with additional needs in addition to our newsletters, lending library and website. You can also join us on Facebook for immediate peer support and daily updates on our services.

Young adults with an Autistic Spectrum Condition
For young adults with an Autism Spectrum Condition we offer volunteering and employment opportunities in our social enterprises, The MAIN Meal, The MAIN Event and The MAIN Page.

We will work with all families and individuals to ensure any barriers such as transport location are not an issue to you or your child/young person attending our club.

Our Redcar and Cleveland Project Officer is Helen McLaughlin and her email is helen@themainproject.co.uk or call 01642 442975 if you have any questions about our Redcar and Cleveland service.
