Citizen Support Exchange

About us

The Citizen Support Exchange is a newly funded pilot project, set up to train people to become Personal Assistants (PA). We also match them with potential employers. It is extremely important to find the right PA for the individual with a disability.

The project has come about through collaboration between The Main Project and the Real Opportunities Centre (ROC). The funding was acquired from North East Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NEIEP) for one year. In this year the expectation is to offer support to 600 citizens and train a potential 240 individuals to have a passport to support, this is a FREE training package for people seeking to find exciting employment with individuals with disabilities. The course will give the trainee, basic skills for acquiring employment as a PA.

The Citizen Support Exchange also provides a FREE matching service for individuals with disabilities who want a PA.

Why now?

The way Social Services deliver services is now changing. A personal budget is the way of the future, and this will mean a significant number of new personal assistants could be employed. The citizen will have much more control of who they want, and when they want them, and what they want their PA to do.
